Vision Radio Network

Our dream of "Christian Radio for Every Australian" was born way back in 1986, when UCB Australia was founded. Back then Community Licenses were the only real option, so UCB set out to assist community groups start stations in their area. The result of that work was almost 30 Christian radio stations springing to life across Australia - each one being autonomous, locally run and financed by their own communities. It was during this time (1995) that UCB printed 500 copies of the first Australian edition of The Word for Today (Read a more detailed history here).

In the 1990's, a new opportunity presented itself - to establish a national Christian Radio Netwok. UCB's focus turned to becoming a broadcaster and, in 1998, The Vision Radio Network was born.

Timeline

Here's a quick overview of the growth of the Vision Network:

1998 - UCB Australia establishes national headquarters and broadcast studios in a converted three-bedroom cottage in Springwood, Queensland, with 3-4 staff and a handful of volunteers

1st February 1999 - Vision Radio Network (then known as Vision FM) broadcasts to our first relay station at Beaudesert, Queensland, via satellite

2001 - UCB Australia moves to our current, larger premises in Underwood, Queensland

5th November 2002 - Vision’s 100th relay station comes on-air in Southern Cross, Western Australia

1st February 2004 - Five year anniversary of Vision's first broadcast. We celebrated with a Steve Grace concert (supported by Soulframe) and broadcast the concert to the Vision network of 162 relay stations which were on air at the time. There was also a second concert back where it all began - Beaudesert

26th January 2005 - Vision's 200th relay station comes on-air at Yulara in the centre of Australia - right next to Uluru

20th July 2006 - Cairns becomes the 250th relay station after waiting more than 20 years for Christian Radio!

June 2007 - Listeners across Australia donated a record $500,000 to Visionathon: Operation Build in just four days

September 2007 – 300th Vision relay station come on air at Yarrawonga VIC!

2010 & beyond!

There is so much still to be done! Many places do not have access to Christian radio so this is our primary goal. Beyond that, we see the establishment of a range of media services to help us better connect Faith to Life - new radio networks, printed materials, increased use of the internet to deliver excellent quality web audio, video and text, similar content for mobile devices, and much more.

In a nutshell, we are passionately committed to creating communities of mature believers through engaging media & resources. As technology and people's media habits change, so must we - becoming "all things to all men that we may by all means saves some", as Paul said in 1 Corinthians chapter 9:

"19 For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a slave to all, that I might win the more. 20 And to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might win Jews; to those who are under the Law, as under the Law, though not being myself under the Law, that I might win those who are under the Law; 21 to those who are without law, as without law, though not being without the law of God but under the law of Christ, that I might win those who are without law. 22 To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak; I have become all things to all men, that I may by all means save some. 23 And I do all things for the sake of the gospel, that I may become a fellow partaker of it."
