Alex regularly interviews John Mackay ‘the Creation guy’ on Vision180. Here she poses the ‘gill slit’ question from her Senior Biology textbook.

Q This question is also at creationresearch.net. It’s about the ‘gill slits’ that babies have. I remember, back when I was at school, looking at biology in my textbook. We were learning about babies and how they’re formed in the womb, and that they look like little lizards. They’ve got tails. They’ve got gill slits. So the textbook tells you that this points to evolution. So what do we do when we see this? How do you point that away from evolution?

A Well, here’s our major problem. You and I live in a world where people like to add the word science to anything to give it credibility. So a political scientist is better than a politician. We’ve also got economic scientists and psychological scientists. Why do they want to be scientists? Well, because we think that science deals with evidence, deals with facts, deals with truth. Anything that’s in a science textbook is beyond question, so we never do question it.

Now if you put your hand up and say, ‘Excuse me, miss, these are drawings. Where are the photographs?’ that’s a very simple question. It’s one you could ask in a court of law. But the textbook just gives you the diagrams, and then makes leaps of faith about them until you think: ‘Wow, the evidence!’

Actually they didn’t present evidence. They presented drawings. So we know there’s someone on this planet who knows how to use a black pen. There’s someone on this planet who makes black pens do what black pens don’t do by themselves. So they’re creative, which is evidence that we’re made in God’s image. Monkeys can’t draw those embryos.

But then you go one step further, and you find the name of this person is Haeckel. Now it’s back in the late 1990s that someone finally got round to saying: ‘Well, let’s photograph the embryos.’ And what you find is, when you look at the photographs, they actually don’t look like fish. They don’t look like lizards. In fact they all look like their own little selves. They’re all unique. And so basically the man who did that research, from one of the huge hospital research centres said: ‘Haeckel was a liar.’

Now that brings us up to one other thing. When people say, ‘How could so many scientists get it so wrong?’ the answer is simple. Scripture says that the heart of man is desperately wicked, and so when you have a scientist who hates God, and doesn’t want God involved in anything, his sin nature will stop him even searching for the Truth. Any one of the scientists involved in that textbook could have said, ‘Hang on, these are drawings. The students are entitled to pictures. Why don’t we have pictures?’ But they didn’t even ask the question.

So therefore beware of false science. It leads you astray concerning the faith. And it’s led so many people to say, ‘Well, I couldn’t believe in the Bible now, therefore I can’t believe in Christ, so I’m chucking Christianity in. And in hell they’ll regret that for eternity, because they’ve abandoned the Way, the Truth and the Life. So that’s why this issue is so important
