Despite the overwhelming evidence of Hamas attacking innocent Jews, murdering, torturing, raping, beheading, and burning people alive, many are turning their backs on Israel saying the retaliation on Gaza is disproportional. The media bias is unbelievable. After much pressure from the media and public to prove the atrocities, the Israeli Defence Force held a private screening for journalists so they could watch footage of the terror attack on Israeli citizens that occurred on 7 October.
James Macpherson, an independent journalist, political commentator and the host of the Sky News program, The Late Debate, joined Neil Johnson on 20Twenty to discuss the media biases relating to the situation in Israel.
Terrorists Wore Body Cameras to Capture Their Atrocities
To show the extent of Hamas’ depravity, the terrorists wore body cameras to capture live footage of their massacre and torture of men, women and children.
‘The difference between Hamas and the Nazis is that at least the Nazis had a sliver of conscience in that they tried to hide their crimes. Hamas is something altogether more evil in that they proudly broadcast their crimes, not trying to hide them at all. They boasted about them,’ said James. ‘Another difference between Hamas and Israel is that Hamas are happy to parade their dead as propaganda for the world to see. But Israel decided these images of our citizens being slaughtered are so horrific, that we will not do this to their families. We will not broadcast it.’
The True Extent of Anti-Semitism Revealed
To think that anyone would want proof of specific atrocities and take the word of a terrorist organisation over the testimonies of Israeli civilians reveals the high level of anti-Semitism worldwide. One only has to look at social media comments that dispute that babies weren’t really beheaded, or that it wasn’t 40 babies beheaded, it was only 20 babies beheaded as if that should make a difference to the level of sympathy expected. One beheaded baby should outrage people, yet people scream out for proof. We are truly living in evil days.
‘So, while the IDF had a private screening for journalists, they weren’t allowed to make any copies of the recordings. They showed journalists exactly what happened on October 7 so that the media would believe the reports from soldiers, citizens, and survivors because up until this point, the media has been far too eager to take Hamas at their word,’ said James.
Hamas Must Be Destroyed
Some are crying out for a cease-fire. However, a cease-fire would not eradicate the problem that Israel is surrounded by enemies who want to wipe them off the face of the earth. This has been made clear many times. At this point, Israel not only has Hamas to deal with in the south but also Hezbollah, who are attacking from the north of Israel, which borders Lebanon. If Israel were to cease fire and give up their weapons, the bloodbath that happened on 7 October would continue until every Jew was killed. Hamas is not interested in occupying the land. They unashamedly verbalise that their mission is to kill every Jew. The hatred and anti-Semitism we see worldwide where people are openly celebrating the massacre of Jews, from babies to the elderly is a warning to every nation. This radical hatred is pure evil and must be dealt with.
‘Israel must destroy Hamas. You cannot allow a terror organisation to continue to exist right on your border, particularly after they’ve just slaughtered over a thousand of your citizens,’ said James. ‘The October 7 massacre was the greatest loss of Jewish life since the Holocaust, and after the Holocaust, didn’t the whole world say never again? This is why we had the United Nations formed to make sure this would never happen again. And here we are in 2023, and it’s happening again.’
Just as people denied, or downplayed, that the Holocaust happened, people are downplaying the October 7 massacre or saying that Israel is using it as an excuse to destroy the Palestinian people.
Australia’s Response
Australia’s initial show of solidarity towards Israel, not long after the attack by Hamas, was short-lived. The Sydney Opera House was lit up in the colours of Israel to show respect to the Jewish community and allow them to mourn the tragedy. Jewish families took their children, who had been watching the footage from Israel, to see the Opera House lit up in support of Israel and assure them they were safe in Australia.
However, pro-Hamas protesters took the opportunity to disrupt the peace by shouting ‘Gas the Jews, F*** the Jews’. This incitement of hatred and violence was broadcast to the world. What is evil God will use for good. The obnoxious behaviour of these pro-Hamas supporters alerted countries and authorities that these extremist groups are a national threat and need to be dealt with.
Sydney’s Lord Mayor, Clover Moore, refused to light up Sydney’s Town Hall in the colours of the Israeli flag. Considering that while she said she didn’t want to get involved with something happening overseas, she had no problem lighting up the Sydney Town Hall in solidarity with Ukraine. Her claim of not wanting to take sides against terrorists killing Jews may be an acknowledgment that they have a problem on their hands when it comes to pro-Hamas groups willing to retaliate against any opposers. These extremists are a very real threat to every country.
While Australia should be condemning Hamas terrorists and anyone who supports them, we should not be painting all Palestinians with the same brush. Many of them are against Hamas and have been caught in the crossfire.
Misconceptions of Australia’s Labor Party
‘The Labor Party have got a problem because the Labor Party … changed their policy in exchange for peace among their warring factions to declare Israel illegal occupiers of Palestinian land. This is despite the fact that Israel has not occupied Gaza since 2005. So, Hamas has had the run of Gaza. There’s been no Israeli troops. There’s been no Jews in Gaza for almost 20 years. So, I’m not sure how you occupy a land when you’re not in that land. But the Labor Party called the Israeli settlements illegal,’ said James. ‘One of the first things the Albanese government did when it came to power was they reversed Scott Morrison’s decision to recognise West Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. And Labour went back to saying that Tel Aviv is the capital.’
IDF Warns Civilians to Evacuate
Another thing that is overlooked by those condemning Israel’s retaliation is that the IDF is the only army in the world that warns civilians to flee to safety before they are about to attack. The Jews who were slaughtered by Hamas didn’t get any warning. What’s worse is that Hamas terrorists tell their own people not to flee Gaza because they regard Palestinians more useful as martyrs to be used as propaganda against Israel.
James reminds us that Hamas is not interested in peace negotiations. Their mission is the destruction of Israel. We need to continue to pray for Israel and the innocent Palestinians used as human shields by Hamas.
‘I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” … Then Abram took Sarai his wife and Lot his brother’s son, and all their possessions that they had gathered, and the people whom they had acquired in Haran, and they departed to go to the land of Canaan. So, they came to the land of Canaan. … Then the LORD appeared to Abram and said, “To your descendants I will give this land.” And there he built an altar to the LORD, who had appeared to him.’ Genesis 12:2-3, 5, 7 NKJV
