The story of God giving the Ten Commandments to Moses and the Israelites is one of the most well-known parts of the Old Testament. Even though we know the Ten Commandments were given to Moses in the Book of Exodus, we also know that they are part of the law of Israel and were given to them in the Book of Deuteronomy.
Many people think that Israel’s character was intended to mirror the attributes of God revealed in the Ten Commandments. We must not undervalue their significance. Moses provides the most comprehensive, thorough depiction of what a wonderful life with God looks like by using the commandments as a model.
Dr Gary Miller is the head of the Gospel Coalition Australia and is also the Principal of the Queensland Theological College. Gary recently joined us on 20Twenty to talk about what he thinks is the deeper meaning of the Ten Commandments, and how they helped the nation of Israel grow and flourish with God.
‘As the Christian foundations of our society begin to unravel,’ says Gary, ‘life gets very complicated and very messy. I think we need we need to pray that people will actually see the chaos that’s unfolding in front of us.’
