Greg Bondar, the state director of Family Voice Australia for NSW and the ACT, joined Neil Johnson on Twenty20 to discuss the introduction of euthanasia laws in Tasmania, and the Mother of the Year Awards.

Greg believes that a conscience vote is what is needed in the instance of the proposed new euthanasia laws. “People need to be given permission to vote according to their faith and their beliefs. There is a sense of urgency with this, and every MP needs to be contacted.”

Greg continues, “We’ve got to make a stand. We need to make sure our politicians are aware of both the moral and ethical complications when voting on and approving these bills.”

In line with their belief in making a stand, Family Voice Australia will now also go national with their Mother of the Year awards. In contrast to the Barnardos decision to bring the award to an end, Family Voice Australia will offer three categories this year; Young Mother of the Year (mums under 25), Mother of the Year (open age), and Grandmother of the Year (open age).

“An award that recognises mothers fits in with the intention of Family Voice Australia,” says Greg. “From a biblical perspective we are told to revere our mothers. There are constant references in the Bible to the value that mothers make in society. It is still the mother that has the most influence on the family. We need to make sure that we are continuing to recognise that value.”

Greg believes there is so much pressure on organisations like Barnardos from today’s cancel culture. “But the Mother of the year award has a Biblical foundation,” he says. “It acknowledges the pressure that women are under right now, and recognises their value. We make the point that we are talking about contributions to traditional families. The family structure should include a man, a women and either an adopted or a biological child.”

Applications open on Monday 15th March, and Greg wants to particularly encourage young mums and grandmothers, to apply.

“I am a grandfather myself, I believe the value of grandparents cannot be overlooked. If you know someone who is deserving make sure you nominate then. This award is about recognising women at all stages of life.”

Family Voice Australia intends to announce the Mother of the Year in each category in the week leading up to Mother’s day this year.

“You can nominate yourself, or be nominated,” says Greg. “The winners will be flown by Rex Airlines to Sydney for the presentation, and will also be interviewed on Vision Radio.”

Greg encourages people to find creative ways to nominate. “Nominees need to be a mother of at least one child, and can be making a contribution to their family, community, work or at home. We want mother’s to be encouraged and take advantage of this wonderful award.”

Greg is looking forward to the announcement the very first Family Voice Australia Young Mother, Mother and Grandmother of the year award!
