Should women’s sport be restricted to biological women? A recent survey commissioned by the organisation ‘Binary’, showed overwhelming support for regulating women’s sport so that only biological women can compete.

In fact, most people agree that the so-called ‘trans’ agenda is seriously disadvantaging women. Three-quarters of Australian’s surveyed believed that women deserve a safe place in sport. So how should we respond to this issue?

Kirralie Smith is the founder of Binary, and believes in celebrating the diversity between men and women. She joined us on 20Twenty to discuss the ‘woke’ agenda of the trans community, and the impact it’s having on women’s sport.

One of the questions specifically asked in the poll, was do you think that biological males should be able to compete against biological women in sport? It also asked which political party people would support, and whether that would change depending on this issue.

“We were not surprised that One Nation, Liberal and National party supporters were overwhelmingly in favour of protecting women’s sport,” Kirralie says. “But it was interesting that around 75% of Labor supporters also agreed.”

Christians can also bring a Biblical perspective to this issue, because we know that God created men and women differently. He created them in His image, which is something that should be celebrated. But unfortunately, political extremists have hijacked the agenda.

Kirralie believes protections need to be in place for both males and females playing sport. When it comes to strength, stamina and speed, testosterone gives males an obvious advantage.

“Politicians are susceptible to lobbyists, and the trans lobby is very strong,” Kirralie says. “They use inflammatory words like transphobic and threaten to cancel people who oppose them. It doesn’t take much common sense to know that males and females have differences that need to be protected.”

It seems that the general media outlets are actively avoiding the issue, and it’s indicative that they tend to go along with the transgender narrative. They continue to promote their political ideology at the expense of women and children.

“The big question though,” says Kirralie, “is will a substantial poll like this make any difference? These sorts of polls are very useful for politicians who are trying to educate and inform their fellow members. They may be afraid of cancel culture and their numbers dipping, but the poll doesn’t lie.”

The everyday experience of men and women proves that we are different. It’s just a small minority of pressure groups who are lobbying politicians. We have to have legal protections not just for women, but for men as well. It’s important in education. It’s important in public policy, and it’s important in sport.

Kirralie believes that it’s not just on the sporting field either. “For instance, we’re very concerned about women and girls’ safety in change rooms.  Increasingly, males are appropriating being female and they are trying to enter contact sport. We don’t want to see that here in Australia.”

Kirralie would like politicians to guarantee the safety of women, and to see evidence of this in their policy promises. She then wants to see those policies translated into decisions by governments.

“We will continue our fundraising efforts,” says Kirralie, “because the next election will be held sometime in early 2022. We need to raise money so that we can have a really strong campaign in informing and educating the public and politicians.”

“Women in sport has implications for us all, and it’s a cause worth fighting for.”
