Philippians 4:6 NIV says: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

The list of stress factors in our world is growing. Apart from financial stress, relationship stress, and emotional stress, the stress of uncertainty brought on by the Covid pandemic turned everyone’s lives upside down. Many people lost their jobs and businesses. If that were not stressful enough, the lockdown periods left people isolated at a time when they needed support from family and friends more than ever before.

People react differently to living in this pressure cooker situation. Some become aggressive while others mentally shut down. Stress is destructive when it festers for prolonged periods. Many people ignore the symptoms and push through, thinking it is a sign of weakness to admit they’re feeling stressed and are not coping.

Dale Carnegie Tips to Overcome Worry

Dale Carnegie, Founder of the Dale Carnegie Training Centre in 1912, taught business management techniques. He stated in his Golden Book that when it comes to making important decisions; gather the facts, and when you have thought about the best possible solution, come to a decision and act upon it, rather than procrastinating. But, most importantly, he stated that the perfect way to conquer worry was through prayer. A connection with God was the key to conquering stress.

Keep a Prayer Diary

Keeping a prayer diary helps you keep track of answered prayers over time. Answered prayers can take minutes, weeks, months, or years. Keeping a prayer diary and noting the date when a prayer was answered will confirm that God hears you and will bring you comfort from worry and stress.

Remember James 1:6 when you pray. “But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.”

Turn to God Daily

Christians can learn to conquer stress by turning to God daily. Spending time reading God’s Word will strengthen you. The more you understand who God is and how much He loves you, the more you’ll learn to trust that He has everything under control, even when things appear chaotic. Whatever is happening in the world, trust that this is God’s world, and He will not leave us or forsake us. God put a plan in place the moment Adam and Eve sinned.

A survey conducted by Vision revealed that 95% of listeners were prompted to pray about a person or situation after hearing about it on Vision, and 89% reported an improvement in their emotional wellbeing through listening to Vision compared to commercial radio listeners.

Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:27 NIV
