Don’t Settle For Less Than God’s Best

It’s a natural desire to want to be the best at whatever we do. But at times to achieve the best seems like an impossible goal. Whether it’s to be the best spouse, parent or even the best version of yourself, the best often seems out of reach. You might even end up choosing to settle for less.

The struggle for Christians is not to let the distractions of Satan keep us from reaching our full potential. God’s best is always available to us, and all He asks for is a commitment to Christ. We need to ask ourselves what we want out of our life and relationship with God, and what we are willing to do to get it.

Don’t Settle

On this episode of Enjoying Everyday Life, Joyce Meyer teaches us why it’s so important that we don’t settle for anything less than the best that God has for us.

‘It’s very easy to want things that don’t require any kind of an effort,’ says Joyce. ‘But are we willing to do what God asks us to do in order to have the very best He wants us to have?’

Joyce believes that the enemy will come against all of us at some point in our lives. We are especially vulnerable when we’re worn out, and haven’t been taking good care of ourselves. It’s so much easier for the enemy to lie to us when we’re feeling exhausted.

‘Even if we’re all on good soil,’ says Joyce, ‘some are still going to receive a greater harvest simply because others were willing to settle somewhere along the way. Now that doesn’t mean that we won’t go to heaven. What we’re talking about is what we are going to do for God while we’re here.’

Holy Spirit Anointing

Joyce says it’s important for us all to have the hope that we will still be doing exactly what God has called us to until He takes us home. He has anointed us by the Holy Spirit to do things that ordinary people can’t do. We are not called to give up.

‘The more you try to do the right thing,’ says Joyce, ‘the more people come against you, reject you and try to persecute you. When God called me to do what I’m doing 35 years ago, I lost all my friends, got asked to leave my church and was basically ostracised by family members.’

In the midst of all this, Joyce knew she had to stay close to Christ. ‘How easy is it to question whether God is really working in your life or not, ’says Joyce, ‘The Bible tells us to be rooted and grounded deeply in the love of God. Do you know that God loves you at this moment as much as He will ever love you in your whole life?’

Grounded In God’s Love

Yet a lot of us are not so sure when trouble comes our way. When we don’t feel like we’re getting our prayers answered, we begin to doubt God’s love. ‘If you really know that God loves you, then when you have personal problems, you don’t begin to blame God.’

‘We may not understand it. But we can have belief beyond reason and be rooted and grounded, deep in the love of God.’
