While all eyes are focused on Ukraine, it’s easy to forget that there are numerous other conflicts taking place around the world. As Christians, we often feel led to support organisations sending resources into difficult places.

Robin Johnson calls for Christians to pray in the midst of tragedy, where people are suffering terribly with the loss of life and freedoms. We’re praying into something very deep, and the history of the world depends on it.

Robin leads the movement ‘Million Praying Men’ and believes there’s no such thing as a good war. He says that war is not only a physical conflict, it’s also a spiritual battle. But we have a unique place as Christians to pray into these situations.

“There’s documented evidence of the power of prayer from the Second World War,” says Robin. “We need to pray for the church to have opportunities to speak. Christians on the ground in the midst of war haven’t stopped being Christian. They haven’t stopped being a voice for Jesus.”

The Bible tells us that God will sustain us, even in times of disaster. But we need to pray that people will be sustained again as this war progresses. We have to speak hope into their situations and trust that God is able to move supernaturally.

“We lift our voices boldly and beg for mercy,” says Robin. “This is not a Christian world, it’s a fallen world and everybody needs Christ. We’re going to take sides, whether it’s for good or evil. But then we want to pray for justice in the situation. We want the Lord to intervene so that what is right will be done.”

Robin says we can we can also pray with our understanding of what we know. But then there’s the other aspect of waiting on the Lord to hear what the Holy Spirit is saying. He’s the great conductor of the orchestra when it comes to prayer.

“We need to tune our hearts,” says Robin. “We have to allow ourselves to be vessels of the Holy Spirit, that He might pray in us and through us for these situations.”
