Journeying Through Grief with Vision

We cannot imagine the pain a parent goes through when a child dies. How do you even begin to heal? God met Col from Parks in his grief through a song on Vision, and that started his healing journey.

Col shares, “at a critical time in my life as I was leaving the scene where our 34 year-old daughter Katie died, Vision Christian Radio was on in the car.

Before I got to second gear, I had an old Steve Grace song called Long Live Your Dreams. And it just sliced through the bravado to reveal a dad who was in deep bewildering pain.

It pointed me back to Jesus because He really is the anchor in every storm. And so we continued all the way through the grieving and healing process that comes after somebody dies. We were so supported by Jesus, and the seed started with the piece on Vision Christian Radio.”

Col adds, “I really like Vision because it has so many joyful and powerful and wise voices, but behind it the truth that Jesus came to give his life and to set us free for eternity. It’s just amazing.

There are so many times that it’s hard to remain positive when there’s such negativity in the world around us, and it wants to take our eyes off Jesus. And so we look to Jesus for the right words, and the right actions at the right time.

God is incredible the way He has fashioned Vision Christian Radio to meet so many people’s needs. And I’ve been listening to some of the stories from people who were suddenly widowed, or in sickness, or in distress, and God’s made Vision Christian Radio a very sharp instrument to do a perfect incision.”

Just how precise is God, through Vision Christian Radio? Col shared his story with us on Visionathon on 19 November. It just happens to be International Men’s Day, and Col is passionate about encouraging men. But Col related that it is also Katie’s birthday. It is as if God was celebrating Katie’s birthday with Col. He knows. He remembers. And so does Col.

“We remember her with joy, rather than the sadness that could have crushed us.”
