Vision’s radio station in Blackbutt, Queensland, went to air on the 4th of May, 2023. This is Vision’s 62nd radio station out of the 100 stations 2021-2023 project and the 801st station overall.

Blackbutt is located approximately 140 km northwest of Brisbane on top of the Blackbutt Range. It has a population of 799, according to the 2021 census. Blackbutt was settled in 1842 when the Scott family of European descent established Taromeo Station, named after the eucalyptus piluralis tree native to the area.

Blackbutt is a quiet town that attracts bushwalkers, campers, artists and 4WD enthusiasts. The rich soils are perfect for growing avocados, olive trees and flowers.

Blackbutt boasts the Blackbutt Avocado Festival in September. It’s a fun festival that includes avocado juggling and other games and tests of skill. You can also learn to cook, eat and grow avocados and enjoy a range of theatre acts from the Homonculous Theatre Company, and live music. You won’t want to miss the infamous ‘Avo Drop’ where parachutists jump from 5000 feet and attempt to grab a marker as they land inside the giant avocado drawn inside the Blackbutt Showgrounds.

So, whether you’re a local or visiting, you can now tune in to 87.6 FM and be blessed by God’s Word being spread through Vision Radio and the supporters who made it possible. It might just change your life!

The cost of establishing a new transmission site depends on the output power and unique site requirements.

Low power licences (ideal in a small country town, for example) typically cost less than $10,000 to establish. This includes the satellite receiving and FM retransmission equipment, the cost of the licence itself, basic local marketing, and program supply via satellite for the first year.

High-power licences and transmission sites are more expensive (but they do have much greater reach).
