The Lorica of Saint Patrick is a Christian prayer used for protection and guidance. It was written in the fifth century by the Archbishop of Armagh, Saint Patrick (385–461) to ward off evil spirits during his travels around Ireland.
I arise today through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,
Through belief in the Threeness, Through confession of the Oneness
Of the Creator of Creation.
I arise today through God’s strength to pilot me:
God’s might to uphold me,
God’s wisdom to guide me,
God’s eye to look before me,
God’s ear to hear me,
God’s word to speak for me,
God’s hand to guard me.
I arise today through the strength of Christ with His baptism, His crucifixion and His resurrection. I arise today through the strength of His love and mercy; I am surrounded by God’s power and protection.
I ask that all my enemies be vanquished this day; All who wish harm upon me shall be cast out. Angels shall watch over my family and friends; And I will be kept safe from any danger or woe.
In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
