The Second Coming

Here’s an interesting question: if you were arrested for being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you? And here’s another: if you have only a limited amount of time to get through a door before the building explodes, would you still sit on the fence or go for the door?

In this episode of A New Beginning titled ‘The Second Coming’, Greg points out how critical it is to make sure that we have a sincere relationship with the Lord. Why? Because Jesus Christ could return at any time, and we need to be ready. And it’s not just Christians who believe this. A recent poll revealed that 66% of Christians believe that Jesus Christ is coming back to Earth.

We should make no mistake about it. Christ is coming again.

He’s going to judge His enemies; He’s going to set up His kingdom and He’ll rule over the earth for a thousand-year period. Satan’s heyday will be over. The second coming of Christ is mentioned many times in the Bible, 1800 times in the Old Testament and 300 times in the New Testament.

“There are eight prophecies about the second coming,” says Greg.  “This is a theme in the Bible that is repeated over and over again. The great British preacher, C H Spurgeon once said, ‘the sound of his approach should be as music to our ears.’ Our reaction to the imminent return of Jesus is a barometer of our spiritual health. Are you right with God? Are you walking with Jesus?”

The second coming is at the end of the tribulation period. Jesus says, as this is happening, the sun will be darkened. The moon will not give her light. The stars will fall from heaven and the powers of heaven will be shaken. And they shall see the son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. If you’re a Christian, Greg believes you will be there. He says the second coming happens at the battle of Armageddon, and the battle of Armageddon is at the end of the tribulation period.

The tribulation period before the Second Coming, and the Second Coming be the final chance given to everyone to put their faith in Jesus.

If you are not a Christian, there is still time to get things right with God. But we don’t know how much. Jesus is that doorway to an eternal life with God. ‘Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’ John 14:6 Find out more here.

You don’t have to live a perfect life to get to heaven. Heaven is not for good people, it’s for forgiven people.

When you’ve turned from your sin and put your faith in Christ, you have the hope of eternal life. It’s because of what we’ve done in light of the fact that God has called us to heaven and purchased our salvation. We are not saved by human effort.

“As followers of Jesus, what are we going to be doing?” asks Greg. “You might want to underline that phrase ‘the marriage of the lamb has come and the wife has made herself ready.’ There was an announcement given that the bridegroom is coming. Jesus used that picture to say we need to be ready for this great event.”

“Evidence of our faith is found in the way we live, by the things we say and what the Bible describes as spiritual fruit,” says Greg. “The Bible says we should bring forth fruit in keeping with repentance. Jesus said by their fruits, you shall know them. And if you’re a real Christian, there will be evidence that confirms you are a follower of Christ.”

Given the times we live in, Pastor Greg Laurie says it’s more important than ever to be genuine. It’s not easy to tell the real from the imitation, and appearances don’t always tell the whole story. Eventually the nature of each will be revealed.

This is important, because something’s going to happen in heaven that some Christians don’t know about. It’s called the judgment seat of Christ. Every Christian will be present at the judgment seat of Christ.

It happens after the rapture and it happens before the second coming. As followers of Jesus, in 2 Corinthians 5:10 it says we must all appear before the judgment seat. Each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether it be good or bad.

“On that final day, God is going to ask about my faithfulness.

He won’t say, well done, good and successful servant. He’ll say, well done, good and faithful servant.”

“We will all be held accountable for what God has called us to do.”

How to Be an Encourager – Ps Greg Laurie

If you were to be summed up in one word, what would it be? Critical? Cranky? Are you known for being negative? As Christians, we should all want to be known as encouragers. It’s important that we are people who see the potential in others and cheer them on.

Honest to God

Jesus saved his most scathing words for hypocrites. The Lord is looking for honesty. He’s looking for those with pure hearts. God knows exactly who we really are. In fact, He knows us better than we know ourselves.

Better Together

The early church turned their world upside down with their commitment to sharing the gospel. In his latest message, Better Together, Greg shares valuable insights from the Book of Acts on how we too can reach the world.
