Food to Eat

Once I was driving back from visiting my Mum at the nursing home when I lived in Albany. It was getting dark. I was really hungry and looking forward to getting Chinese takeaway for dinner, when I saw a young girl hitching by the side of the road.

I pulled up and she climbed into the car. She was very small. At first I thought she was a teenager. But when she got in the car, I could see her face was careworn and she was probably in her late twenties. As soon as she got in the car she started telling me her story. She was on her own as her children had been taken away from her because of a violent boyfriend.

But she didn’t get a chance to tell me too much as it was only a five minute drive to where she was staying at a hostel in the town. As she got out of the car I called out,

“Always remember that Jesus loves you!”

Next minute she had jumped back into the car and was grabbing hold of my t-shirt and shaking it and shouting,

“Tell me that again! Tell me what you said about Jesus loving me!”

I was so shocked that for once I couldn’t think of anything to say, so I said,

“Do you want to ask Jesus into your heart?”

She shouted “Yes!”

I said, “say this after me.” She shut her eyes and bowed her head,

“Jesus I know I’m a sinner.” She repeated it with gusto, “Jesus, I believe You died on the cross to pay for my sins. Forgive me for my sins and come into my heart Lord Jesus and change my life.”

She repeated every word with such enthusiasm. I’ve never seen anyone so keen to say the sinner’s prayer!

After that I put my hand on her shoulder and prayed for her. When I finished praying she told me,

“When you murmured over me it felt so good.”

She didn’t even know it was called praying! Then she kissed me on the cheek, jumped out of the car and ran inside the hostel.

I sat in the darkness overcome with emotion at what God had just done. I wondered how many others are out there desperate for someone to tell them that Jesus loves them.

I didn’t even feel like Chinese takeaway. For the first time in my life, I wasn’t even hungry. I totally understood what Jesus was talking about after seeing the change in the ‘woman at the well’. When His disciples asked about food, He told them, “I have food that you know nothing about.”

Reshaping Faith Perspectives

In a changing world, our faith approach must adapt. Traditional Christianity appears to be losing its impact.

The Mystery of Mr Eternity

Arthur Stace was one of Australia’s earliest graffiti artists. He wrote the word Eternity in beautiful copperplate script over the streets of Sydney more than half a million times over a span of 35 years. Before that, he was a homeless Aussie battler, a drunk and a criminal.

Evangelism Qualifications: Just be Yourself

Documenting Evangelism’s Global Growth

Christian filmmaker’s goal is to impact viewers deeply in a secularised culture and to point people to Jesus.
