Is there a future for the Gospel in Australia?

Walking across street

We live in an amazing time. Everything is at our fingertips, we have so much freedom and so many choices. We are the masters of our own destiny like never before—even life itself is getting longer!

Bradley Cooper captures the mood of our culture with a song currently playing on mainstream radio. He sings: ‘Maybe it’s time to let the old ways die.’ It’s an idea we collectively seem to be embracing without giving much thought as to WHICH OF those old ways actually lead to real life.

‘This is what the Lord says: “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. But you said, “We will not walk in it.”’ (Jeremiah 6:16 NIV)

With Biblical morals no longer the ‘guide posts’ for society, many Christians are wondering what the future will hold for people of faith. With the current uncertainty about religious freedom, what does the future hold for the Gospel itself?

What is the Key to the Gospel in Australia?

I believe the key to the future is this: we have to be prepared to live counter-culturally. There are many parallels between our culture and that of first century Rome — what was Paul's urging? "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind..." (Romans 12:2 NIV)

The first Christians knew what it was to live out their faith in a way that was so radically countercultural that it got the attention of others.

But we have a problem. Every day we are all bombarded with a message to pursue the things of this world, make money, get stuff, be comfortable, live well. More, more, more and me, me, me. Even Christians are being sucked into this view of life that will inevitably lead to dead-ends.

Back to the first Christians. They knew what it was to live out their faith in a way that was so profoundly countercultural that it got the attention of others and ultimately led to a radical change in the society. It didn’t come easily—they chose daily to sacrifice and be intentional with their time, money, skills and reputations.

Thank you for being intentional with your time, money, skill and reputation.

Your caring support that means, together, we can follow Jesus’ instructions to go and do likewise, bringing the hope found only in Him to desperate situations.

Imagine if we really took hold of the idea of work as worship. Everything we do in life, including our job, can be an opportunity to worship the God who created us because God is glorified when we use our passions and skills with excellence.

So, is there a future for the Gospel in Australia? I say a resounding YES—provided we make choices with our time, money, and passions that are kingdom focused and not self focused. It’s vital to recognise our short time on earth can have an eternal impact.

We are so grateful for your support as we focus on advancing God’s Kingdom in our nation, jumping right into the middle of all the noise and disrupting it with God’s way of thinking — bringing hope to desperate situations… affirming and strengthening Christians in their faith… and creating a place for curious onlookers to eavesdrop on an ongoing conversation about God — to ask questions and even receive prayer.

Over the next three months, we are looking for an extraordinary outpouring of the Lord’s provision for us—as we seek to purchase a building that will provide the critical infrastructure for God's Word to continue to go out to our nation and beyond.

Please pray for us—that all the finances needed for the deposit will be received in time. As you find yourself able, please consider your best gift towards this project—and the future of the Gospel in Australia.
