This was the headline in my local news this week. On her first day of school, a precious 5-year-old girl fell asleep on the bus home and missed her stop. Unfortunately, the bus driver didn’t see that she was there, returned to the depot and locked up the bus while she continued to sleep. Soon enough, a massive search was underway fearing the worst. Much to everyone’s relief, five hours later she was found—somewhat petrified, banging on the doors of the bus trying hopelessly to escape, but otherwise safe and well.
As I think of her parents I get a small glimpse into the jubilation Jesus spoke of in the parable of the lost sheep: ‘There is more joy in Heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven’t strayed!’ (Luke 15:7 NLT)
But as I think of this little girl, I can’t help but see a picture of so many in our nation—innocently enjoying the ride on the bus of life, unknowingly falling asleep, only to one day find themselves trapped at the eternal depot, doors locked tight.
Looking back over 2017, it is clear that so many are blissfully unaware of this predicament, having embraced ideas that will only lead them, and our nation, to a dead end.
What a tragedy it would be if we were distressed and grieved yet did nothing. Our response must be with the kind of urgency we would apply to find a missing child, sharing the true hope of God with all who will listen.
Your faithful support of Vision is enabling God’s truth to reach people right where they are. Jessica, a mother of three little ones herself, is a good example;
‘As I journey through the everyday of motherhood, at a time when the business of life could have meant my Christian growth might have slowed, Vision has enabled me to grow, learn, fellowship and be challenged and encouraged right in my home.’
Jessica also commented on the impact she’s seen Vision have for her children and others:
‘With the Gospel, our faith’s foundation, the greatest story, the true light, being proclaimed every day in many ways—Vision gives hope for my children, family, friends and this nation. Hope for the future!’
I am so grateful for your continued support of Vision, empowering us to continue to declare the truth of God’s word in the media, even in a time when it’s not politically correct! Each story of redemption we hear adds to the rich legacy of hope we are creating as ‘God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothing ourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.’ (Colossians 3:12 NIV)
May God bless you richly as you serve Him.
