But if we walk in the light as He Himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. 1 John 1:7

Mandy shares some thoughts on this passage…

When I read the epistles of John I experience a variety of emotions. I feel really encouraged because his focus is so much on the love – the practical love of Christ. How can that not be encouraging? I feel a little despair too if I’m honest because I’m all too aware of just how much I need to change to reach the ideal John talks about.

A genuine Christian is in a perpetual state of change and transformation and over time it should be noticeable. If there’s no change, you have to wonder if the person is a genuine Christian. We’re all on a journey and Christianity is a process, but we should be looking more like Christ as the weeks and years go by.

It means living less and less in darkness and the ways of the world, and more and more living in the light of Christ and in the ways of the Word. When that happens, we’re living in His light, His environment, His spiritual reality and our fellowship with one another is the richer for it.

The adage, ‘how can light and darkness walk together’ is true. It can’t be light and dark at the same time. You can’t be married and unmarried at the same time. So walking in His light not only makes our fellowship sweet, but we also know that we’ve been cleansed, washed clean, made right before God, because of Jesus shed blood.

They key word in all this however, is the very first word….’IF’. If we’re walking in God’s light…all these consequences come into play.

We trust God will bless you as you commit His Word to your memory and allow it to penetrate deep into your heart.
