The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters. He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, Psalm 23:1-6
Pae shares some thoughts on this verse…
An often-visited chapter of the Bible for comfort, where the Lord loves on us lavishly. Maybe you can remember a time when you were sick, and your loved one waited on you hand and foot to nurse you back to health and make you comfortable. David reminds us that the Lord is in total control when the storm rages. We are reminded that He is our Shepherd, and He will nurse us back to health.
I see in the rod, the authority of a king. In the staff, the gentleness, meekness and care of a shepherd. The Lord holds both. We have all we need to heal and recover. We don’t get to choose whether to lie down, He makes us lie down. We are not left to stumble through the path and hope we’ve taken the right one, He leads us; and He doesn’t take us through more storms, he leads us beside the quiet waters, His peace. The table depicts the kings’ delicacies for rebuilding our strength. He anoints us to overflowing so we can get back on our feet and give out of the overflow. Not maybe, but surely goodness and love will follow me always as I choose to dwell in Him forever.
