If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
Romans 10:9
Mandy shares her reflections on this verse…
I was raised in a very secular, non-Christian home even though we were taught that Jesus died for our sins and rose again. I had a very superficial belief in God because that’s what I was told to believe, but there was nothing Christian about my family. We didn’t talk like Christians, or act or believe or respond like Christians.
However, when I was in my early teens I was confronted with the Gospel and the reality of what I really was – a sinner. Something changed dramatically inside me, I was actually really uncomfortable about my sin and I didn’t like it. I was confronted about what I always thought I believed and it came crashing down on me that if I really did believe that Jesus died for me, rose from the dead and that the Bible was not only true, but it was actually the Words of God Himself…then I needed to be really saved. Not just hold to some kind of superficial belief system. I was only 14 and life got real and serious very quickly.
I came to saving faith in Christ – I’ve never been the same – this is my confession. That’s what this verse means to me.
