Always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 5:20

Pae shares her reflections on this verse…

It’s a devastating thing to learn that your leader is in prison. As their leader or father in the faith, Paul is now writing to the beloved group of Gentile believers in Ephesus from prison.

He makes sure they know he does not stop praying for them. He reminds them about the vast wealth they have because they are now in Christ. He contrasts the riches they have acquired to the destitute state they were in before Christ extended His grace. This letter is abundant in exhortation and God’s blessings for them as they continue in faith and encourage one another.

Paul is also very clear about the spiritual warfare they will encounter but points out they have been equipped with the armour for battle. Paul encourages them not to lose heart because of the tribulations he is going through, that it is all in God’s plan.

He sums up his encouragement in this verse by telling them to always give thanks to God for everything, give thanks for the good seasons, and also give thanks for the trials they will go through.
