Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.Ephesians 5:21
Nathan shares his reflections on this verse…
I am a leader. It is something that I have been designed to be, and leading is something I enjoy. But as any good leader will tell you, I also have people over me in authority that I follow and have to submit to.
That said, there are times when I don’t want to submit to others authority. Especially when I think my idea is better, I think they are wrong, or I simply don’t want to do what they are telling me. But this verse is clear. And when we consider it along with what Paul says in the surrounding verses, it is clear that submission isn’t a bad word or something to be feared.
When we submit to others, we show respect to them. But more than that, we are showing respect and love to Christ. We offer Christlikeness to the world, and who knows what impact that will have on those observing how we respond.
