Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Philippians 4:6

Robbo shares his reflections on this verse…

I’ve never considered myself to be an anxious person, but over the past few years, I have had bouts of anxiety that have left me feeling rattled. It was at those times that this verse would often rush to my mind – but I didn’t see it as a positive. Having grown up in a Christain home, I obviously knew the verse but found it hard to reconcile the exhortation from Paul with my feelings of dis-ease. Quoting this verse is easy if you aren’t feeling anxious, but it can feel debilitating – even shame-producing – if you are!

Over time, however, I have been able to step away from the shame, be more honest about how I’m feeling (it’s not wrong to have feelings!) and develop positive habits which have nipped my anxiety in the bud. Those positive habits are actually found within the verse – constant (and consistent) prayer, thanksgiving and seeking God for answers. I still feel anxious from time to time, but not with the same intensity and persistence that I did when I was trying to (a) pretend like it wasn’t there and (b) deal with it in my own strength…

Thank you again for joining with others across Australia in learning and meditating on Scripture through The Treasury Project.

We trust God will bless you as you commit His Word to your memory and allow it to penetrate deep into your heart.
