I’ve always enjoyed this verse, but this verse has become very, very real to me in recent years.
I think the reason it’s become more relevant to me recently is that, while I’ve always got along quite easily with people throughout my life, it’s become more challenging now. Everyone gets offended by everything for every, conceivable reason and if they can’t find a reason, they make one up.
Every point of view, every opinion, every thought, no matter how innocent, is scrutinised and condemned. it becomes an opportunity to ‘cancel’ and destroy whoever dared to speak. That’s why I got off social media.
BUT, that’s why this verse is so important to me now. My goal is to live at peace with everyone as much as is possible and in my power to do so. I also understand that the Gospel, which has always been offensive to unbelievers, is as important today as it’s ever been. I’m just more aware of the importance of expressing it with as much grace and kindness as I can muster.
