Unfortunately many people get caught up in things that they don’t want to be a part of, but we are thankful that many people just like David find help and stability in the anchor of God’s Word.

After a 20 year addiction, David Peters from North Parramatta in NSW, found himself in a drug and alcohol rehab – where he also gave his life to Jesus. However, finding his way after rebab was a challenge. The Word for Today devotions helped him during that fragile time. And now, after ten years of sobriety the daily devotions continue to help anchor him today.

David shares his testimony of God’s grace…

“I feel my testimony is a powerful one. Not because I sobered up and shook a 20-year addiction to drugs and alcohol. People do that all the time. The powerful part for me was that all I did was simply let Jesus into my life.”

“A decade ago, to this very year, I was in William Booth House rehab centre run by the Salvation Army. I went through all the therapies and the whole AA 12-step program and was at my lowest in life, with nothing else to lose, I looked at the 3rd step of AA, which states ‘made a decision to give my will and life over to the care of God’ and I just literally said, ‘OK Jesus I’m yours, take over”. From there it was easy. I felt each day I was getting stronger in my convictions that Jesus was indeed working through me and walking with me.”

“This to me is the power if my testimony. That Jesus could take someone who was so deeply involved in drugs and alcohol (and the lifestyle that goes along with that) for well over 20 years and simply transform him through the power of His love. My recovery was not a worldly one, but a heavenly one. I feel as if my life is the embodiment of 2 Corinthians 5:17, which tells us that if anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation, the old has gone and the new is here.”

“The Word for Today has certainly been an anchor for me throughout all these years. I signed up to receive the printed copies also as they are good to hand out to those within my ministry from time to time.”

“Over the 10 years since then, I have had many people ask me what kinds of therapies I used and what kind of strategies I employed to guarantee success. The answer was, is and always will be the same. Jesus. It’s just Jesus.”
