“Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows that will he also reap.” Galatians 6:7 ESV

The Impact of Decisions

‘Good seed produces good fruit,’ says Pastor Greg Laurie. ‘The decisions you make will impact your life. Make decisions that will reap benefits, such as who you’re going to hang out with, who you will influence, and who will influence you. Even if you see others get everything they want by lying or cheating while you labour away, faithfully and quietly, and nobody notices you, stay faithful to your decisions about how you will live your life because you will eventually reap what you sow based on your decisions.’

Using Power For Evil

Pastor Greg Laurie examines the book of Esther using Haman as an example of a powerful man who sowed evil and eventually reaped what he deserved. Haman hated Mordecai because he would not bow down to him. So, he planned to kill him and the Jews. Haman didn’t realise that Esther was a Jew, and when she heard of his evil plot, she told her cousin, Mordecai. They decided the only way to save their people was for Esther to tell the King about Haman’s plan. However, by approaching the King, there was a possibility that she may be killed.

God Has a Perfect Plan

As the story goes, Esther managed to save her people and Haman was hung on the gallows he had made to hang Mordecai. God has a perfect plan for humanity and to protect His people. He is always present and at work in our lives as Christians, whether we feel Him or not. God can take impossible situations and turn them around for His glory. Romans 8:28 (KJV) tells us: “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

Toying With Sin

God has a purpose for our lives. It’s up to us to choose to either follow His calling for our lives or follow the world. Either way, we will reap what we sow. A worldly life of parties and sexual pleasure will eventually reap devastation. Telling yourself that you have everything under control and can stop drinking or using drugs or that you won’t get pregnant is toying with sin. Even when you see what has happened to other people, you think you’re unique, and it won’t happen to you, but eventually, you always reap the consequences of your decisions.

Set Yourself Free From Your Past

The good news is that Jesus laid down his life to take the punishment for your sins. If you ask Jesus to forgive you for every sin you’ve committed, they will be instantly forgiven and erased forever. They will never come back to haunt you. You will be set free from your past, and as you grow in your Christian walk, you realise that obeying God is wise. At times, it will be hard to stand for Christ, especially when you’re young and facing all the temptations the world has to offer, but rest assured, you will be rewarded. You will reap what you sow.
