Thousands of people have turned up at public libraries in New York and Indianapolis to hear Christian actor turned author Kirk Cameron read his new children’s book.

Despite extra sessions being scheduled many missed out on attending a reading.

The libraries had previously refused to allow the former Growing Pains star to host a story hour for children by reading the Bible inspired book he wrote.

That was despite previously allowing Drag Queen Story Hours for toddlers to take place.

The libraries backed down when Kirk Cameron and his publisher threatened legal action after more than 50 of them rejected or ignored his request to host a reading.

It’s estimated more than 2,000 people gathered at the Indianapolis Library and more than 700 at the Scarsdale Library in suburban New York.

The author describes his book titled As You Grow as a “pro-God, pro-America lesson that is so important for children.”

He says it aims to use “brilliant art to teach the Biblical truths of the Fruit of the Spirit, such as love, joy, peace, kindness and faithfulness”

The actor told Fox News that some hopeful listeners in Indianapolis said they couldn’t even get into the building because it was at capacity.

“Yesterday in Indianapolis, a brushfire of faith, family and freedom was ignited. It has now spread to Scarsdale, New York, and it’s moving across the country uncontained,” Kirk Cameron said. “I am so thrilled.”

He personally thanked many of those who turned up to hear his story.

His next scheduled reading is at the Central Kansas Christian Academy in Great Bend later this month.
