The father of a righteous child has great joy; a man who fathers a wise son rejoices in him. Proverbs 23:24
We are in a battle for the next generation. So many attacks are aimed at our children, and we must teach them & train them, we must set them up for success in these evil days. It begins in the home, and as parents, we must not just speak to our kids the way to live. We must show them. So often I’ll hear my kids repeating things I’ve said, whether good or bad.
Yesterday Carol & I had a meeting with our 9 year old Josh, & 3 of his teachers. We needed to sort out an issue that’s been troubling him at school, he spoke so confidently & passionately in front of all us adults! I was amazed at the wisdom that came out of his little mouth! There’s a new kid at school who’s a troublemaker. He’s befriended our boy, and some of the other kids don’t like him, and often the other kids will take off & leave Josh to play with this kid. And this is what Josh said to his teachers. He said he’s been worried about this boy, and he wants to be a real Christian to him. He said it’s not very Christian to stop playing with this boy, and that there is a reason why this boy is his friend and that he wants to show him how to be godly. I was speechless. So proud of my boy! Proverbs 23:24 says, “The father of a righteous child has great joy; a man who fathers a wise son rejoices in him.”
Now Joshy is by no means perfect, but when the chips are down, he’s copping it from some of the other kids for being this kids friend. But he cares for the kids soul more than anything. Proverbs 11:30 tells us, “He who wins souls is wise.”
This morning for our family devotions, it was based on this verse. “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” James 1:5 With so many decisions & choices to make everyday. We must ask for wisdom from God. We must know him & know his Word. The Wise man builds his house upon the rock. We hear God’s words & we put them into action.
Lord, Give me wisdom. In Jesus Name Amen.
