How will you finish the race?

All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance, admitting that they were foreigners and strangers on earth. Hebrew 11:13

I love this whole chapter, the Hebrews hall of fame! Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham & Sarah, the whole chapter is an inspiring list of Bible characters who lived by faith. It inspires me to think I’ll meet these heroes in heaven one day! A Christian songwriter once wrote, “It’s great to learn the stories of old, stories like that make a boy grow bold, stories like that make a man walk straight…” We need to honour our forefathers & learn lessons from their history, but we also need to remember they were just people, trying to live by faith in our creator.

The verse says, “All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance, admitting that they were foreigners and strangers on earth.” We need to be more heavenly-minded, to walk by faith & not by sight. In this microwave, drive-through society some people expect answers to prayer instantly and if they don’t get what they want, they blame God and get mad at him. Sometimes we will be rewarded on earth, sometimes we will be rewarded in heaven. We ne

ed to store up riches in heaven, not riches on earth where moth & rust destroy.

The verse that get’s me thinking is, “admitting that they were foreigners and strangers on earth.” If we lived like that, our lives would have a completely different perspective. As Larry Norman said, “This world is not my home, I’m just passing through.” But it’s how we finish the race that matters. We may have not started well, or we may have gone off track, but every person has a chance to finish well. To finish the race living by faith. I hope that’s how I’ll finish. Growing in faith every day, running the race to win the prize. Fixing my eyes on our Father in heaven.

Lord, forgive me for trying to fit in to this world, I just want to fit in your kingdom. Help me live like a son in your kingdom more & more very day. In Jesus name. Amen.
