Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire. Revelation 20:15
Atheists have argued with me that the Bible was invented by men who wanted to scare people into being good. Their theory is that world’s best-selling book, which at least 2 Billion people believe in, written by over 40 different authors, with countless prophecies which have come to pass, proven to be historically accurate was some smart idea from some men to scare people into being good? This book which I believe is 100% inspired by God, has so much poetry, prophecy, history & revelation with so much complexity, I think if you were going to compile a book for your own motives, you would put together something completely different from the canon of scripture.
I used to avoid the book of Revelation because I didn’t understand a lot of it. Every time I read it, I get to learn more & I get blessed. I love Dr Kameel Majdali’s suggestion that we need a scuba divers view, not just a snorkelers view of the Bible. We need to study & discuss in private & in public. In Revelation 1:3 it says, “Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near.” And Revelation 22:18 says, “For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; 19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.” It can only take 1 hour to read the Book of Revelation in one sitting. It’s good to know the different theories that people have on this Book. The key things to remember are, it’s the Revelation of Jesus Christ, it’s not all about the Anti-Christ. We know that Jesus Wins in the end! I believe it’s a book that urges us to evangelise more than ever. This verse that hit me today so hard it says in Revelation 20:15, “Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.” I want to make sure I share the gospel with as many people as I can to give, as many people as chance to have their name in the Lamb’s book of life!
I was blessed last night to hear about the launch of 96five 40 years ago. The founding Chairman had written a note to say that the purpose of 96five is to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with every home in Brisbane! What a great foundation! (And they do a great job of sharing the gospel mixed into their format.) Sadly, many Christians have never actually shared the full gospel. Some have shared nice words, or they’ve lived a social gospel, or they’ve shared part of the gospel. But research shows over 95% of Christians have never lead someone else to the Lord. How far have we strayed from what the disciples where called to do?
I love journaling through the New Testament twice a year & the Old Testament once in our reading plan, because you get the whole counsel of God. Carol was just saying to me yesterday that we often quote the nice feel good verses in the bible & leave out the heavy ones. The Bible isn’t a bag of trail mix where you can pick & choose the good bits & leave the rest out. And also the bible isn’t a book where you can pluck out a verse that was written in the context of a certain time & culture and insist we all follow it to the letter of the law today. Many people have many interpretations of scripture & insist they are right. The truth is we should all be studying the scripture daily, & learning & growing & having a teachable heart to listen to what the Holy Spirit is saying to us. I believe as we fill ourselves up with the truth of God’s word, it will flow out from us every day. So for the 95% of Christians who’ve never lead someone to the Lord. What are they filling themselves up with?
Lord, fill me afresh with your Holy Spirit. Help me be a good steward of the message you have entrusted to me. Speak to me & though me today I pray, In Jesus name. Amen.
