I lay prostrate before the Lord those forty days and forty nights because the Lord had said he would destroy you. 26 I prayed to the Lord and said, “Sovereign Lord, do not destroy your people, your own inheritance that you redeemed by your great power and brought out of Egypt with a mighty hand. 27 Remember your servants Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Overlook the stubbornness of this people, their wickedness and their sin. Deuteronomy 9:25-27
I love it how the scriptures we read often confirm things that are happening in our lives! Tomorrow is the last day of my 40 day fast. And I keep seeing all of the passages in scripture about 40 days. Moses interceded on Israel’s behalf for 40 days and 40 nights. There was 40 years in the wilderness for the Jews; 40 years from the crucifixion of Jesus to the destruction of Jerusalem; 40 days of Moses on the mount receiving the Law; Moses’ life being divided into three sections of 40 years; 40 days given to Nineveh; 40 days of Jesus fasting in the wilderness, In the Old Testament, when God destroyed the earth with water, He caused it to rain 40 days. After Moses killed the Egyptian, he fled to Midian, where he spent 40 years in the desert tending flocks. The Israelite spies took 40 days to spy out Canaan. Before Samson’s deliverance, Israel served the Philistines for 40 years. Goliath taunted Saul’s army for 40 days before David arrived to slay him. When Elijah fled from Jezebel, he travelled 40 days and 40 nights to Mt. Horeb. The number 40 also appears in the prophecies of Ezekiel and Jonah. There were 40 days between Jesus’ resurrection and ascension. I love the fact that many believers are fasting for 40 days right now, praying & interceding for Australia. I can’t wait to see how the will respond.
