A Grumble free zone!

Don’t grumble against one another, brothers and sisters, or you will be judged. The Judge is standing at the door! James 5:9

This is a warning we see all through the scriptures. We need to tame our tongues. We need to check our attitude, we need to speak life over people & not grumble. There is a stern warning attached to this, it says we will be judged. It could be a judgement we receive on this earth, or in heaven, it doesn’t say here, but it says we will be judged.

Angry lookJust yesterday I started to grumble about someone to my wife. And she quickly said, why don’t you bless them instead, they might change! I’m grateful for my wife’s wisdom, stopping me going down that path. Let’s face it, it’s easy to grumble about anything. We can easily see the bad in things and go on about it. But imagine if we created a grumble free zone around our lives! Imagine if we chose to speak blessings over people instead of grumbling? The enemies plan is to divide & conquer, he likes to put thoughts in our mind to become bitter & envious, & jealous & angry, and he send his evil spirits to us to lead us down the path of grumbling. If we realise we are in a spiritual battle, we won’t give the devil a foothold & start grumbling. It’s like the old saying, “if you can’t say anything good, say nothing at all.” But it’s not only our words, it’s our attitude, our mindset. We need to see each other as brothers & sisters. Family. We are all different, & we all have faults, there will always be some friction between people in the body. Let’s not take the wide road of grumbling that leads to destruction, let’s take the narrow road & speak a blessing over them.

We were blessed to have David Tensen from Leaderheart speaking on a Culture of Blessing on Sunday at New Hope. He shared how in the Jewish culture, parents blessed their children regularly, men blessed their wives with a special blessing. Jewish children have so many blessings over them & it impacts them in their whole life. Some kids may say I want to be a star in Hollywood one day, but a Jewish kid would say, I want to own Hollywood one day! Because they’ve been blessed so much, they have faith & successful thinking. David also said, often wait until someone dies until we speak a blessing about them in their Eulogy. But we should speak a blessing over them while they are alive! As Christians we need to bring a blessing over each other regularly. We know that our words have the power of life & death, let’s choose to speak life.

Often when people are doing the wrong thing, we are tempted to grumble about them. But that’s how the flesh responds. Imagine if every time we are tempted to grumble, the Holy Spirit triggers us to speak a blessing over them. One thing would be that we’d live a happier life because we are speaking blessings & that brings joy in our lives. Another thing is that it may well change the person as you bless them, and they might stop doing the wrong thing! It’s a win win!

Lord, forgive me for my grumbling. Help me speak life & Blessings wherever I go. Help me guard my words & my attitude, and lead me by your Holy Spirit. In Jesus name. Amen.
