Jerusalem

As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it and said, “If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace—but now it is hidden from your eyes. The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side. They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God’s coming to you. Luke 19:41-44

Jesus wept over Jerusalem. Where are the leaders who weep over their cities today? So many leaders are too caught up in doing their own thing to stop & pray & weep over their city. If you want to know what God is like, look at Jesus. God weeps. God’s heart breaks for the lost. I was impacted by a song by a Christian Artist Called, “Eli” recently, the words said:

God weeps too, God weeps too

though we question Him for all that we go through

still it helps me to believe and my pain it does relieve

just to think that God weeps too

It’s amazing to think the Creator of the universe weeps, and is grieved by what happens here on earth.

In this passage in Luke, Jesus weeps, and then prophecies about the trouble that Jerusalem will face. And Jerusalem has had many troubles in the past, and every day there are many troubles there. I remember on my trips to Israel, as we first drove into the city, they played the CD in the minibus, “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, Oh how the angels sing…” I was overcome with emotion, and every time I hear that song, it’s like I’m back there in the Holy City. A lot of believers don’t have much interest in what’s happening in Israel, but I believe we are meant to watch the signs of the times, watch & pray for the peace of Jerusalem. Jesus will return there one day. And although sometimes it looks like everything is falling apart in the middle East, I think things are actually falling into place for the return of the Lord. We need to lift up our eyes for our redemption is drawing near…

Lord, I pray for the peace of Jerusalem. I Bless Israel today in the name of Jesus. Give me your heart for Israel. Open my eyes to discern the times we are living in. Even so, come quickly Lord. Amen.
