The Australian Federal Election is only months away, and as well as determining Australia’s economic, health and educational future, the elected government will also be making life changing decisions that affect your family, faith and personal freedoms.

The political divide between Judeo Christian family values and the laws that govern our country are growing wider and wider.   So, what does the future look like for everyday Australian families and those who adhere to Biblical values?

Damian Wyld, Director of the Australian Family Coalition, joined Neil Johnson on Vision Christian Radio’s 20Twenty program to discuss key political issues that every Christian should be across before voting.

“I feel bad at times that I always feel like the doomsayer in many of these conversations,” Damian shared when asked if he was optimistic or pessimistic about the days ahead for traditional family values in Australia.  “I don’t think we’ve ever seen an election before where a Party has campaigned so openly, not just on one but on multiple social issues.”

“For those concerned about family, faith and freedom, there really are three broad areas that I think people need to be incredibly mindful of as they’re approaching the May Election, which will be called within a matter of weeks.  I would put them into three baskets.  The first is abortion, the second is the gender agenda, and the third is such a broad one – our freedoms.”

“These three bundles of issues are just going to be such a prominent part of this Election for those who are concerned about them, they really are.”

So when it comes to voting, what’s the most important of these three issues?

On the topic of abortion, Damian said the changes Labor made in December to legalise late-term abortions and make them taxpayer-funded, should raise red flags for those who value human life in the womb.

Most would think people in Australia live relatively free lives, but personal freedoms are being threatened.  “Freedoms actually have a huge interplay with the gender-agenda. Much of what we see in radical gender ideology has been rolled out at school level, and it’s the rights of parents of parents to object to those.  It’s the rights of parents to have a say, as the primary educators of their children, in what these things look like.”

“So, while gender-agenda is important, our freedoms are perhaps more fundamental because we could soon lack the ability to even speak on them.  I’m reminded of a woman in the UK recently who called a man a woman or vice-versa on Twitter and was hauled off by Police officers in front of her children and put in a cell for seven hours.”

“We’re actually seeing clear concrete evidence of how undermining of freedoms actually inhibits our ability to talk about all these other issues.  So really, if you had to put me on the spot, I’d have to say [freedom is the most important].
