No Matter Who The Prime Minister Is…

…Jesus is the king who will reign forever and ever!

For some people, the election result was deeply encouraging, for others profoundly unsettling. For some it was miraculous, for others disastrous.

Regardless of your political views, what way you cast your vote or how you feel about the outcome, the words of Scripture reassure us that God is in control:

The king’s heart is like a stream of water directed by the Lord; He guides it wherever He pleases. (Proverbs 21:1 NLT)

Sometimes, the very fact God is in control leads believers into a sense of complacency. Nearly three
millennia ago, Isaiah prophesied the rise of a king who would be born over a century later: ‘This is what the Lord says to Cyrus, His anointed one, whose right hand He will empower. Before Him, mighty kings will be paralysed with fear. Their fortress gates will be opened, never to shut again.’ (Isaiah 45:1 NLT)

The walls of Babylon were, according to the ancient historian Herodotus, more than 20 metres thick and 100 metres high. They were regarded as impregnable.

Yet Cyrus, king of the rising empire of the Medes and Persians, took it by the simple stratagem of diverting the river that flowed through the city and marching his armies down the riverbed under the walls.

God knew, long before it happened, that Scott Morrison would be elected in 2019. ‘The authorities that exist have been appointed by God,’ says Romans 13:1 BSB. And while Proverbs 21:1 assures us that we can rest secure in the knowledge that God’s hand is on the PM’s heart, none of this should ever engender in us a sense of complacency so that we neither pray nor act.

The times are such that we should be praying more fervently for those in government, so that they receive God’s favour to govern well and, even if they do not know Him, they can—like the pagan king Cyrus—still be agents of God’s blessing.

We should also pray because, while the government has been ‘appointed by God’, it is not our saviour. Jesus is. So often Christians speak as if a particular political party is going to be the salvation of the nation. They might not think it but that’s what they give voice to. Our prayers for local, state and federal leaders are needed more than ever! The time until His return is shorter than ever and we want our nation to be ready!

Your support of Vision has been critical in that regard. As you read the testimonies on the next page, showing how profoundly God is on the move across Australia, sense the heartfelt relief of those who’ve found hope in God and notice the quiet transformation that’s taking place in so many lives.

We want that to increase and then to keep on accelerating as each of us build on what the other has done. As Paul said: ‘I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow.’ (1 Corinthians 3:6 NIV)

Together we're sharing the Good News across Australia with over 10 million people now within the footprint of Vision's Radio network, 150,000+ printed devotionals being sent out each quarter, hundreds of thousands accessing our content online each month and more.

Please pray more lives are touched and that the glory is all God's as Vision continues to expand.
