One of Vision Radio’s regular contributors Dr. Nick Hawkes has lost a long battle with cancer.
He was a prolific Christian writer and broadcaster known for his daily devotions, podcasts, distinctive respectful voice and precise commentary.
The son of an army chaplain and journalist was born in Adelaide, but educated at an English boarding school and polytechnic.
He returned to Australia as an agricultural research scientist before moving into the ministry and pastoral roles.
He had two degrees in science and three in theology including a pair of PhDs.
Dr. Hawkes wrote poems, romantic thrillers and books on theology aimed at equipping Christians with accessible apologetics of faith.
For the past six and a half years he has been fighting cancer but his desire for people to know Jesus for themselves grew stronger and stronger.
Close friend Penny Mulvey from the Bible Society writes in Eternity News that “he never complained, he was always upbeat and full of the joy of the Lord.”
His Daily Bible series on living with cancer was published as a book Soar Above the Storm, offering 40 short devotions for people living through the storms of life.
Ms. Mulvey writes: “Nick leaves behind thousands of people who have been touched by him through his writing, his speaking, his pastoral ministry and his friendship.”
“We can rest in the knowledge that Nick has been welcomed into Heaven by our Heavenly Father and Nick will be smiling, for he is home.”
