Two Christian families are suing their Colorado school district over allegations that its teachers traumatised their 6th-grade children by encouraging them to change their genders after joining an LGBT club and never telling their parents about it.

The couples claim staff at the Fort Collins middle school recruited their daughters to join a Genders and Sexualities Alliance after-school ‘art’ club where they were convinced to change gender identities.

The girls were urged to keep the club meetings a “secret” from their parents.

The conservative America First Policy Institute (AFPI) and Illumine Legal lodged a lawsuit on behalf of the parents claiming their children were told that if they were not completely comfortable in their bodies, that meant they were transgender.

It alleged teachers told the girls that gender ‘assignment’ at birth can be a mistake made by parents or doctors.

The complaint also claimed that children who “came out” as transgender at the club were awarded prizes.

CBN News reports the lawsuit said the daughters of the plaintiffs eventually decided they wanted to transition despite never having had such thoughts before joining the club.

They then spent months in “emotional decline and confusion” before changing their mind.

The lawsuit alleged the school deliberately deceived parents and tried to assume the parental role.

It said both families “have strong and sincere religious convictions regarding the education of their children on these sensitive topics” and would have chosen to opt out of the club had they been told of their daughters’ attendance.

AFPI  said: “This lawsuit seeks to return the power to parents by reinforcing their constitutional right to govern their child’s education and protect their future.”
