A prized Hebrew Bible that was hidden by a Jewish family during World War has been returned to its rightful owners almost eight decades later.

Holocaust survivor Susi Leiter finally retrieved the 1874 Bible after officials from the Holocaust Memorial Museum tracked it down.

The Bible had been left behind by original owners Eduard and Ernestine Leiter when they were transported to the Treblinka camp in Poland where they died.

The Bible wasn’t seen until 1990 when residents discovered it behind a double wall in a Bavarian house during renovations.

Premier Christian News reports it was sold to German art historian, Gerhard Roese on eBay in 2017.

He then decided to return the Hebrew Bible to the Leiters’ descendants.

After verifying its authenticity, The Holocaust Memorial Museum hand-delivered the precious book to American Susi Leiter.

Her late husband was the grandson of the original owners.
