A coalition of 70 organisations and individuals is calling on the US State Department to redesignate Nigeria as a “country of particular concern” when it comes to religious persecution.

It wants Secretary of State Anthony Blinken to identify Africa’s most populous nation as one that has “engaged in, or tolerated particularly severe violations of religious freedom.”

Last month 45 worshippers were kidnapped when Islamic militants stormed a church in Nigeria’s Kaduna state.

They contacted the families of the hostages and demanded A$700,000 dollars in ransom.

Morning Star News reports suspected Fulani jihadists recently murdered 25 Christians in Benue state.

Human Rights groups have warned of a Christian genocide in Nigeria.

It has the worst record in the world for kidnapping Christians.
