More and more billboards are popping up across the United States with a powerful three-word message — Christ Is Lord.

They’re to promote a new book by Idaho pastor Douglas Wilson entitled Mere Christendom.

The book advocates for the need to abandon secularism and embrace Christian leadership in government.

Christian website Faithpot writes: “Wilson emphasises the significance of Jesus Christ in addressing the ultimate questions that individuals and nations face. He believes that nations and cultures must acknowledge Christ’s lordship, stating, “We, all–America, must abandon the disastrous experiment of Secularism. We must instead confess that Christ is Lord: He rose from the dead and ascended into Heaven and reigns over our nation and theirs.”

Christian publisher Canon Press is funding the billboards around cities which have attracted large pre-order sales of the book.

They’re appearing in every post code that has ordered 20 deluxe edition boxes of the book.

Canon Press says it wants to help believers notify their town and local leaders that Jesus is already in charge.

On its website the publisher writes: “When a foreign army has surrounded their enemy, they paper the town to announce their victory and call for total surrender. This is our campaign for Mere Christendom. We’re not campaigning for the election of Jesus, he’s already on the throne. We want to help you notify your town and local leaders.”

Faithpot writes that  the campaign serves as “a powerful call for Christians to incorporate their faith’s tenets in governance, recognising Jesus Christ’s supreme authority.”

“As we contemplate the influence of faith in public life, we are reminded of the profound words from Philippians 2:9-11 (NIV)”:

Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
