A study of the in-prison ministry of Prison Fellowship International (PFI) shows it leads to radical change in jails.
A Baylor University research team conducted the first phase of the study over 40 months in prisons in South Africa and Colombia.
Leader Dr Byron Johnson told Christian Newswire this team found compelling evidence that the PFI program increases prisoners’ motivation to find new meaning and purpose in life despite their criminal past.
“The Prisoner’s Journey” course has already graduated more than 460,000 inmates worldwide.
More than 70% of them have continued in a follow-on discipleship program.
The faith-based course is designed to “transform the lives of prisoners, from the inside out, by introducing them to Jesus”.
