An Israeli organisation is fulfilling the Biblical command to love the widow and the orphan.
It’s called ‘Amitism’ which in Hebrew means ‘brave’.
Once a week, volunteers bless widows, widowers and orphans by sharing meals, playing games and providing a refuge.
It was founded by Rabbi Yehudah Glick and his wife Hadas.
Both their first spouses died.
Rabbi Glick told CBN News they are following God’s command in Exodus not to mistreat widows and orphans.
The couple offer a place to rest and be among people with similar experiences.
They are constantly comforted by a line in Isaiah 1 that says: “Perform justice for the orphan, plead the case of the widow.”
Hadas says: “When you don’t have a father or a mother, a home needs support. We’re rebuilding the Torah words into reality.”
