Pioneering Vicar Retiring From Church Of England’s Biggest Congregation

The leader of the largest congregation in the Church of England is standing down.

The Reverend Nicky Gumbel has been senior vicar at Holy Trinity Brompton for the past 16 years.

The 66-year-old will retire from the role in June.

He’s a best selling author of books including ‘Why Jesus?” and “Questions of Life”.

He’s also overseen the huge growth of the Alpha program for new Christians which began at Holy Trinity Brompton 44 years ago..

It’s now running in more than 30,000 churches of all denominations in 130 countries.

His church is located in the upmarket suburb of Kensington in central London

It comprises a young and diverse congregation of more than 4,000.

Eternity News reports its wardens have praised Reverend Gumbel for his ‘extraordinary ministry”.
