The landscape of Christianity in South Korea seems to be changing for the worse.

That’s according to Eric Foley from The Voice of the Martyrs Canada.

He told Mission Network News that overall church attendance numbers have been in steady decline for more than 30 years.

“Christians think of South Korea and they say, ‘Wow, 10 of the 11 largest churches in the world!  Sending out more missionaries than anybody!’ True, true. However, during Covid, those missionaries were called back in large numbers,” Mr. Foley observed.

“Post-covid in South Korea, we saw upwards of 15% of churches closing or at risk of closure in the near future.”

A recent poll found the nation’s younger generations becoming increasingly less religious.

South Korea still sends out more Christian missionaries than any country apart from the US.
