A Christian outreach organisation is planning to increase its presence in a region of India known for Hindu extremism.

Mission Cry is launching three seminaries to train Christian leaders in Odisha State.

Odisha in Eastern India is the place where Australian missionary Graham Staines and his two sons were murdered by Hindu extremists in 1999.

Jason Woolford with Mission Cry says the group is sending the region $1 million worth of seminary materials as well as donated Bibles and Christian books.

He told Mission Network News its important to establish the seminaries if they are to effectively impact a population of almost 45 million.

Currently, the population is predominantly Hindu and Muslim with just over 2 percent identifying as Christian.

Mission Cry has sent more than $375 million in Bibles and Christian books to over 178 Nations around the world.
