Grief. It doesn’t just hit you when you have lost a dear one. It hits you when plans change, hopes are dashed (even not permanently so), and when in transition. Maybe you are saying goodbye to a neighbourhood you had been in, even if you are moving to supposedly greener pastures. Maybe it’s a sports game you can’t play anymore. We sure have had a lot of grief to deal with this season of COVID. And for many, traumatic as well, because of the suddenness of changes.

In these two Focus on the Family podcasts, Mardi Sheahan, a counsellor and trainer in Grief and Bereavement explores what is grief, how we process it, and how we help ourselves and others going through it.

Focus on the Family provides relevant, practical support to help families thrive in every stage of life.  Listen to their daily radio show weekdays on Vision. Find your local times here.

Identifying and Dealing With Stress

Stress is a common and normal physical reaction to things that are challenging or new. It has both mental and physical aspects, and is something that we all have to deal with.

When Kids Reject our Faith

It’s a tough question, but what should we do when our kids reject our faith? Often what they really want is to explore life on their own terms. But it can be challenging to know how to respond, especially when we see them making choices we don’t agree with.

Monitoring What We Watch

Does what we watch influence our behavior? Does it change how we interact with the world, and more importantly, how our children interact with it? Kids can be so easily influenced and pick up on things, even if they don’t always understand the meaning and complexity behind it.

Are You Really Ok?

Did you know that as many as one in five Australians are affected by mental illness every year? This is a problem that we cannot afford to ignore. The impacts are being felt across our communities, both on the health system and the justice system.
