Discover how an emergency landing became the starting point to expect miracles and expect God to help

It’s a feeling most of us know, sitting next to someone, and being too shy to speak to them. But God often brings people together for His own reasons, and when a freak aeroplane fault left passengers fearing for their lives, this man knew he’d been given an opportunity.

As the Sydney-to-Melbourne flight took off, a man was feeling pretty ordinary, sitting next to a woman who looked like she’d come out of Vanity Fair. Intimidated by her beauty, he thought he couldn’t possibly manage to talk to her. But he knew nothing happens by accident, so he asked God for guidance. “Lord, if you want me to speak to her, would you please open the opportunity.”

Suddenly, the pilot announced that they would have to turn back. There was a red light on the dashboard, and engineers on the ground had told them to land the plane immediately. As the aircraft turned around, it shuddered violently, and everyone inside shuddered too.

He wasn’t afraid, but the woman next to him was. She turned to him, and asked him to hold her hand.

“I can do better than that,” he replied. “I can pray for both of us.”

They talked all through the emergency landing. They talked while they waited for the aircraft to be repaired. And they talked through their flight to Melbourne. All that time, they were talking about God. She was very open to the Gospel, and afterward, he sent her a copy of the New Testament.

God can do supernatural things to bring about that moment, where sealed lips can open to spread His love and hope. But we have to be ready to follow His lead, and take that step of faith. “God’s more interested in souls than you and I will ever be,” he said. “And I’m very interested, but God’s much more interested. So expect miracles, and expect him to help you.”
