Have you ever experienced a ‘God moment’, an inexplicable touch of grace in your life? Finding comfort, at times, seems unobtainable. Yet this story will show you how God uses nature, in this case a little bird, to do just that for this widower.

His wife of forty-seven years had died on Anzac Day. Filled with grief the man went and stayed at his sister’s and her husband’s place in a rural area of the Sunshine Coast.

Every morning he went out in the garden and spent time reflecting, doing his devotions and reading the Bible.

Four days after his wife’s funeral as he spent time in solace, a bird suddenly approached him and decided to perch itself on the man’s foot. The bird spent several minutes chattering to him.  This had never occurred before to him.

After a while the bird jumped from his foot to his knee.  He reflects saying “I had my Bible on my lap; I just put my hands out and said, no food.”  But the bird was happy to just be there twittering to the man for a few more minutes and it eventually flew away.

His sister and her husband have lived in that area for twenty years and have never seen or heard of anything like this before. They have never fed the birds or encouraged them.

A while later, to the man’s surprise, the bird came back to him.  “I was just amazed at the whole thing, rejoicing in the beautiful morning, and God, whilst feeling very sad. I’d been married forty-seven years. I was pretty raw, and then it came back to me.” The bird spent the next ten minutes or so looking at the man and bringing him joy and comfort. He said, “that was a God moment, well and truly.”

Having a strong faith does not stop us from experiencing grief; instead it permeates it with hope. Only God’s comfort can provide us with peace that surpasses all understanding.
