God’s Word clearly instructs us to make disciples, yet sometimes we try to ignore God’s whisper and the opportunities He puts in front of us, to share our testimony and His truth with others. In this story a man finds himself being a hitchhiker’s guide to God.

A rural water corporation worker spent a lot of time driving, but he never picked up hitchhikers. One morning as he was on his way to the next job, he drove past an Aboriginal man standing on the side of the road.

The driver was running late so he kept on driving. Suddenly he had a feeling that he should stop and pick the young man up, but he ignored the feeling since he was in a hurry.  The whisper inside got louder and louder to the point he knew that it was God telling him to go back and pick the hitchhiker. So he pulled over, turned around and went back to pick the man.

As they drove, they started talking, and the passenger told of his troubled life, in and out of jail. Realising he had a captive audience, the driver explained how he’d been born again, and all the things God had done for him since.

The driver recalls, “so we had a great old chat about the Lord and what He’d done in my life and what He could do in his life.”

When they reached the destination, the driver offered to pray for the hitchhiker. “I laid hands on him and prayed for this gentleman and we both ended up in a lot of tears.” He said.

The driver arrived at his work destination, and as he was sharing about the miraculous driving story, to his surprise a lady who was working in the office became quite teary and acknowledged that the hitchhiker was her brother.

He hasn’t picked up a hitchhiker since, but he’s glad he turned back that morning. “Obviously the Lord wanted to speak to him.” The man remembers, “the voice was so strong in my head to go back and pick this guy up…I’m not a particular bold person, yet on that day, I was as bold as brass.”

God always knows the perfect moment to offer the right word at the right time. Each one of us is given opportunities to share His message.  Be like the man in this story and allow God to move through you to help someone on their journey to salvation.

How will they know if no one tells them?
Have you ever experienced God whispering for you to share the Gospel with someone?
What was your response?

Reflect on what stopped you from taking the time to share your testimony, or to share God’s truth with someone, and be inspired and motivated by this story.
