If we made a list of non-negotiables before we got married or entered into any major decision, we would avoid so much pain and heartache in life.

Imagine if we knew what we wanted but sat down ran it through this checklist first:

1. Is this the will of God for my life?
2. Am I compromising on my list of non-negotiables?
3. Do I feel at peace making this life changing decision?
4. Am I trying to be someone that I’m not by making this decision?

Most times in life we make decisions based on emotions. If we sat down and went through this checklist objectively, it will help to make decisions when your emotions are on high.

In the sermon video above, Pastor Jeff Vines unpacks this process to help you find the man or woman that God wants you to marry ‘till death do part’.

“When we have some non-negotiables in our lives. When we are resolute about certain things. And when we live within the parameters and precepts of God, we set ourselves up for a wonderful, abundant, successful life.”

How can you know the will of God and will He get involved when it comes to making these big decisions in your life?

Seeking God first through His Word and in prayer. Most people pray for help in the years following getting married, but the best time to pray for help is before you get married.

Pray first before making any big decision in life.

Jeff shares the story of Abraham in Genesis 24, that in the final moments of his life, his most pressing priority was finding the wife God had for his son Isaac. He entrusted his most trusted friend Eliezer to do this for him, and who did Eliezer trust? God, through prayer.

Genesis 24:12-14
Then he said, “O
Lord God of my master Abraham, please give me success this day, and show kindness to my master Abraham. Behold, here I stand by the well of water, and the daughters of the men of the city are coming out to draw water. Now let it be that the young woman to whom I say, ‘Please let down your pitcher that I may drink,’ and she says, ‘Drink, and I will also give your camels a drink’—let her be the one You have appointed for Your servant Isaac. And by this I will know that You have shown kindness to my master.”

Once you have made the decision on who to marry, there are four key questions you should ask before saying, ‘I do’. Find out what they are in Jeff’s two-part Vision Christian Radio program below.
