Geelong vice-captain Patrick Dangerfield has been handed a three-match ban, for his high bump on Adelaide’s Jake Kelly.
Kelly was left with a broken nose and concussion after the incident.
The AFL Tribunal graded the bump as a ‘severe’ act of rough conduct.
The Cats will not appeal the ruling.
Coach Chris Scott says it’s going to be hard to replace the 2016 Brownlow Medal.
“We don’t have a like for like – no one does,” says Scott.
“We’ll get some players back that were held back a little bit last week, so we’d expect that Zac Tuohy would be ready and Jack Henry would be ready.”
“There is a few other options that we’re weighing up.”
Meanwhile, Richmond’s Jack Riewoldt has suggested that players will think twice about bumping after Dangerfield’s suspension.
Riewoldt has told Fox Footy, tackling or smothering are better options.
“Coaches would be very wary of players choosing to bump… you just have to tackle,” he says.
“You have to choose to tackle or you have to choose to smother.”
